MARIETTA, Ohio (AP) - A judge has delayed until October the trial of a former Ohio sheriff’s deputy accused of fatally shooting an ex-colleague more than three decades ago.
Mitchell Ruble pleaded not guilty last year to an aggravated murder charge in the February 1981 shotgun slaying of Deputy Lt. Ray “Joe” Clark. Authorities say Ruble killed Clark after Clark fired him for inappropriate conduct.
Washington County Judge Randall Burnworth rescheduled Ruble’s trial last month from May 11 to Oct. 5.
Authorities say that while serving a search warrant, law enforcement discovered Ruble had a modified AR-15 rifle, hand grenades and other explosives.
The 64-year-old Ruble also has pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance, illegal manufacture or processing of explosives and attempted illegal manufacture or processing of explosives.
