EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A Springfield man will not face criminal homicide charges for running a red light and crashing his pickup into three young children, killing them.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports (https://bit.ly/1GX9Bze ) that Lane County prosecutors announced Monday that they will not file charges against 68-year-old Larry LaThorpe for the Feb. 22 collision.

The collision killed 8-year old John Alysander Day, 5-year-old McKenzie Mae Hudson and 4-year-old Tyler James Hudson. Their mother, Cortney Hudson-Crawford, suffered serious injuries. The family was in the crosswalk while returning home after buying ice cream.

After the crash, LaThorpe stopped and cooperated with investigators. A breath test indicated he had not been drinking. He said he had a green light and didn’t see the pedestrians until after his pickup struck them.
