NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A federal hurricane awareness tour is coming to Norfolk.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will have hurricane experts in Norfolk on Tuesday. A U.S. Air Force Reserve WC-130 J hurricane hunter aircraft is scheduled to make an appearance at Norfolk International Airport.
Norfolk is one of six cities NOAA is sending hurricane experts to in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for the upcoming hurricane season, which begins June 1.
NOAA has conducted the hurricane awareness tour for more than 30 years. It alternates between the Gulf and Atlantic coasts. The tour is followed by NOAA’s hurricane hazard education campaign during National Hurricane Preparedness Week, which May 24 to 30.
