SEATTLE (AP) - Teachers in Washington’s largest school district - Seattle - have voted to stage a one-day walkout May 19 to dramatize their request that state lawmakers fully fund a voter-approved initiative that would lower the number of students per class.
The Washington Education Association says teachers in three other districts - Snohomish, Lake Stevens and Franklin Pierce - also voted Monday to conduct one-day strikes. They plan to walk out this Friday.
There are nearly 7,000 teachers in the four districts.
Teachers are also asking state lawmakers not to cut educators’ pay.
The state teachers union says teachers in 29 Washington school districts have now voted to participate in the one-day walkouts to dramatize their cause.
On Wednesday, nearly 3,000 teachers in the Northshore and Lake Washington School Districts plan a one-day strike.
