NYACK, N.Y. (AP) - Weekday overnight lane closures have gone into effect on the southbound New York State Thruway near Nyack.

Tappan Zee Constructors says they are necessary as work continues on a temporary all-electronic toll system in Rockland County.

A permanent toll plaza will open in Tarrytown once the $3.9 billion bridge project is finished in 2018.

The closures began Monday and will last several weeks.

They begin at 7 p.m. with one lane taken out near Exit 11. A second lane closes at 9 p.m. and a third at 10:30 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.

At least one lane will remain open at all times.
