VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - Officials in a northern Indiana county report that several polling places opened late because of problems with new electronic voting equipment and some voters were turned away.

Democrat Director Kathy Kozuszek of the Porter County Voter Registration office told The Times of Munster (https://bit.ly/1IKDrX7 ) the problems could be serious enough for candidates to call for a new election.

Kozuszek has expressed concerns about the new equipment since it was purchased. She says there have been issues with Wi-Fi not working and other technical issues.

The cities of Portage and Valparaiso are holding mayoral primaries, while town officials also were on the ballots.

Kozuszek says voter turnout has been reported low throughout the county.
