CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding more than $6.7 million to public housing authorities across West Virginia.

The funding will be used for operations and management efforts to help ensure safe public housing across the state.

The award was announced Monday.

The largest grant was for $1.4 million, which will go to the Charleston and Kanawha Housing Authority. The housing authority in Huntington was awarded about $1 million while the one in Wheeling received more than $580,000.
