LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — An Atlanta-area sheriff has been charged in the shooting of a real estate agent at a model home.

Gwinnett County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Shannon Volkodav said Wednesday that Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill has been charged with reckless conduct in the shooting, which critically wounded 43-year-old real estate agent Gwenevere McCord.

Authorities have said the two were alone in a model home roughly 50 miles northeast of where Hill’s office is located when the shooting happened Sunday.

Hill left the scene without giving an official statement to investigators. Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said certain details Hill gave about the shooting when he called 911 raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Hill has said McCord is a close friend.

Hill’s attorney did not return calls to his office.
