TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A former Trenton priest will serve three years at a specialized adult treatment center for sex offenders rather than state prison.

The Trentonian reports (https://bit.ly/1Sd5gd0) that 68-year-old Rev. Romannilo Apura was sentenced Friday to three years in the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel.

Apura was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage boy. Prosecutors say he forced the boy to engage in a sex act at a home in Trenton and in another incident attempted to remove the boy’s pants.

He will also be on lifetime parole supervision and must register as a sex offender.

He was serving at the St. Martha Parish in Point Pleasant at the time of his arrest after previously serving in Trenton and other parishes around the state.
