SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police in Vermont say an early morning fire in South Burlington led them to a large-scale marijuana growing operation.
South Burlington police say they responded to a fire on Hinesburg Road just after 1 a.m. Saturday.
While attempting to clear residents from the three-family unit, police say they discovered what they described as a “large quantity” of marijuana and growing operation on the second floor. In that apartment, they say, was a man who refused to leave.
Two residents of the apartment - 27-year-old Ellora Car and 29-year-old Evan Jerrome - were charged with cultivation of marijuana. They are due to appear in court Nov. 24.
No phone listings could be found for them and it was not immediately known if they have lawyers.
