TOWN OF ALBION, Wis. (AP) - A police officer has died in a crash with a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources vehicle in a rural area of Dane County.
WMTV-TV (https://bit.ly/1leklAe ) reports it happened around noon Monday on County Highway N in the Town of Albion. Authorities say the officer had just started his shift.
Dane County sheriff’s spokeswoman Elise Schaffer (SHAY’-fur) says a 25-year-old Fitchburg woman in a DNR pickup truck crossed the center line and hit the officer’s squad car head-on.
Schaffer says the woman was working as a DNR employee at the time. She was taken to a Janesville hospital with minor injuries.
The officer is identified as 33-year-old Ryan Copeland of Janesville. Copeland had served as a K-9 officer with the McFarland Police Department since 2013.
The accident remains under investigation.
