TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - A Tuscaloosa woman has been charged with attempting to kill her infant daughter who was hospitalized with brain damage and several broken bones.

The Tuscaloosa News (https://bit.ly/1Xmfo4J ) reports that Shaikeyia Peenekia Allen, 19, was charged Monday with aggravated child abuse and attempted murder.

Tuscaloosa Police spokeswoman Lt. Teena Richardson told the newspaper that the infant was diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome. The five-month old child also had a fractured skull, broken ribs and multiple bite and pinch marks.



Allen was being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $60,000 bond. It was not immediately clear if she had an attorney.

The Alabama Department of Human Resources has taken custody of the child.
