DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Davenport man accused of hitting his infant son has pleaded guilty to child endangerment with injury.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1jhVXMU ) that 23-year-old David Shaw II is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 14. Assistant Scott County Attorney Steven Berger wrote in a plea agreement filed Monday that he will recommend against prison or jail time with the provision that Shaw complete anger management and parenting classes or counseling as a condition of probation.

Police say Shaw acknowledged using an open hand to hit the 3-month-old boy on Sept. 9 while the boy’s mother was at work. Shaw says he struck the boy three or four times because he would not stop crying. Police say the boy had bruises on his lower back, buttocks and back of his legs.
