SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A man is facing charges after authorities say he fired a gun to distract West Valley City police officers from searching a motel.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1NoQrWR ) 31-year-old Marco Etsitty was charged Friday with two weapons offenses. Two others, 28-year-old Daniel Movahhed and 21-year-old Ghufran Al-Bander, have also been charged in connection with the October incident.

Police had responded to reports that Movahhed allegedly displayed a gun at a gas station and was seen with the weapon at a motel.

Court documents say an officer had intended to serve a search warrant in one of the motel rooms, but then stopped when he heard gunshots nearby. No one was injured.

Police say Al-Bander had sent Etsitty a text message telling him to distract police by firing the gun.
