RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled at the newly reconditioned police memorial statue in Richmond’s Festival Park.

Mayor Dwight C. Jones and Police Chief Alfred Durham will preside over Tuesday’s event. They will be joined by recently retired officer Glenwood Burley and the police department’s honor guard.

Last week, the memorial was cleaned and the area around it was re-landscaped. The sculpture shows an officer carrying a child and lists city police officers who have died in the line of duty.

Durham said Thanksgiving week is an appropriate time to renew appreciation for the memorial.
