MCCANDLESS, Pa. (AP) - A suspended Pennsylvania high school basketball coach has waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges he had sex with a 16-year-old female player.

Defense attorney Robert Andrews declined comment after 33-year-old Pine-Richland coach Cliff Foster waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1MCBBZl ) reports Foster was suspended by the district just north of Pittsburgh and charged last month with institutional sexual assault and corruption of a minor.

Police began investigating after an Allegheny County child welfare caseworker received a report about a possible relationship between Foster and the girl.

Police say the girl also played for an Amateur Athletic Union club team Foster founded and allegedly had sex with him in hotel rooms on trips to Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Washington D.C.
