CLEVELAND (AP) - A body found buried in the backyard of a vacant Cleveland home has been identified as a 31-year-old California man who was fatally shot in the head.

Police say an officer following up on a missing-person investigation went to the address Friday afternoon and spotted an area where the ground had been disturbed. A police cadaver dog helped discover the body, and a handgun also was found.

The Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County medical examiner said Wednesday that the man was identified as Nicholas A. Rowe, of Chula Vista. He died of gunshot wounds to the head, with brain, skull and spine injuries in a suspected homicide.

Police haven’t indicated if they have any suspects.
