DENVER (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot to death by Denver SWAT officers during a standoff that lasted 5 ½ hours.
The Denver coroner’s office said Wednesday that 28-year-old Miguel Angel Martinez died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Police went to the home in southwest Denver on Sunday evening after a report of a shooting. Martinez, who was the only one in the home, injured himself in the shooting but refused to leave.
He was shot as officers forced their way into the home.
Adrienne Jacobson, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Corrections, tells The Denver Post (https://goo.gl/ePYrNi ) that Martinez had fled from community corrections a few months before the shooting. He was serving time for a drug conviction.
