ARDEN, N.C. (AP) - Police have arrested two people after a vehicle chase that started on Interstate 26 and ended in a construction site.

Lt. James Wingo of the North Carolina Highway Patrol tells media outlets that Wednesday, troopers attempted to stop a Nissan Pathfinder with a stolen plate on I-26 eastbound near mile marker 34. A chase ensued and two people were arrested. One suspect was taken to the hospital.

Bobby Honeycutt, a worker at the construction site, says the suspect leaped out of his vehicle at the site and started running, jumping over a ditch. The suspect then was run over by a bystander in a field below the site.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Craig Harris says the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Buncombe County and Haywood County sheriff’s offices are investigating.
