CINCINNATI (AP) - Police say bystanders rescued a shopper who was slashed by another woman with a large knife in an attempted robbery in a grocery parking lot in Cincinnati.

Police Sgt. Jim Perkins says the shopper was pushing her grocery cart on Wednesday night when 23-year-old Ashley Rhoads demanded her purse and began swinging a “big, edged weapon” at her.

Jim Perkins says a man tried to help and was cut and knocked to the ground. Other bystanders took the suspect to the ground until a security guard arrived.

The shopper was treated at a hospital for cuts to her hands and released. The wounded bystander was treated at the scene.

Court records show Rhoads has been charged with felonious assault and aggravated robbery. No attorney is listed for the Harrison woman.
