PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Advocates for the homeless are planning a vigil in Providence to remember a homeless woman died on the city streets this summer.

The vigil scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Friday in front of Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral is being held for Kerry Soares.

It is being held by the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless.

Speakers will include recovery and substance abuse workers; outreach workers; and Soares’ friends.

Advocates say the deaths of homeless people are needless when solutions exist for housing all Rhode Islanders.

Statewide Outreach Committee of the Coalition vowed that any deaths on the streets would not remain invisible and would be marked by a vigil.
