ELBA, N.Y. (AP) - Officials are investigating after a western New York man was nearly shot by a hunter’s stray bullet on Thanksgiving day.

It happened around 10:20 a.m. Thursday. Ray Stanton of Elba told authorities he was sitting down in his home when the bullet came through the wall about one and a half feet from his head.

Investigators say a deer slug was fired from a shotgun. The state Department of Environmental Conservation has found the hunter who fired the shot.

It wasn’t immediately known if charges will be filed.
