NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans police say a motorcycle rider died when he hit an overpass guard rail and flew off, landing under a railroad car that had stopped on ground-level tracks.

Officer Juan Barnes says the 34-year-old LaPlace man died at the scene in spite of help from paramedics.

The man’s name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

Barnes says the accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday on the Almonaster Boulevard overpass at Jourdon Road. The motorcycle remained on the overpass.

Routine blood tests are pending and an autopsy will determine cause of death.
