AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - Divers have recovered a body from a Texas Panhandle lake in a horseback riding accident.

Amarillo police did not immediately release the name of the victim in Wednesday afternoon’s incident. Police are trying to determine why the rider and his horse ended up in the water. The animal survived.

Cpl. Jerry Neufeld says the death appears accidental.

Police say two people were on horseback on trails near Diamond Horseshoe Playa when one rider and his mount disappeared.

The victim’s body was recovered in the water, about 35 feet from the shoreline.

The investigation includes a stable near the lake.
