POULSBO, Wash. (AP) - The National Transportation Safety Board says a lack of oil in the engine caused the Poulsbo plane crash last year.
The Kitsap Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1QwSHZb ) that the investigation found that the engine seized due to a lack of oil. That caused the Jan. 20, 2014 crash on Noll Road.
Pilot Kent Curtiss died on Feb. 7, 2014 from injuries he sustained in the crash.
The safety board investigation found that the engine oil cap had not been secured. That caused a “rapid expulsion of engine oil.”
The aft section of the engine compartment, cowling and airplane belly were coated in oil, while the oil filler neck and cap were undamaged.
