RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Two Virginia universities will host a symposium on the role race plays in the criminal justice system, public opinion and the media.
The Wilder Symposium “Race and the American Society” is set for 9 a.m. Friday at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Grace Street Theater. Virginia Union University is joining VCU in sponsoring the all-day event, which is free and open to the public.
Former Virginia Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, the nation’s first elected black governor, says a thoughtful discussion about race and American society “not only is timely, but necessary.” He says the symposium will provide an opportunity for the audience to hear from those best qualified to discuss the issues, including law enforcement officials, researchers and talk radio hosts.
