MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama’s unemployment rate has dropped to six percent.

The governor’s office said Friday the seasonally adjusted jobless rate for September was six percent, down from the August rate of 6.2 percent.

The number is a slight improvement from the same time last year, when Alabama’s unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. However, Alabama is still well above the U.S. unemployment rate of 5.1 percent.

Unemployment is lowest in Shelby County, which had a September jobless rate of 4.1 percent. Wilcox County has the highest unemployment rate of 15 percent.
