KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) - A man who was convicted in the bludgeoning death of a woman has pleaded guilty to a second murder.

The Kingsport Times-News reports (https://bit.ly/1ReGRmK ) 44-year-old John Slemp pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder in the death of 53-year-old Gary Jones. Jones was found stabbed to death in his home in 2010. Authorities say years passed until Slemp could be positively linked to Jones’ murder.

Last month, Slemp was found guilty of killing Betty Sue Short. Short was found dead in her home in 2011 with blunt force trauma to her head.

Authorities say the motives for both murders were prescription pain pills.

Slemp was sentenced to life in prison in both cases. Prosecutors say Slemp also waived his right to appeal the verdict in either case.
