FLINT, Mich. (AP) - The University of Michigan-Flint has plans to expand the campus inside a portion of a nearby bank building.
The Flint Journal (https://bit.ly/1PkzPiE ) reports that the Board of Regents approved the $6 million purchase Thursday of the 160,000-square-foot, 10-story north tower of the FirstMerit complex in downtown Flint. The campus will expand by about 11 percent with the purchase of the building, located across the street from the Riverfront Banquet Center, which contains the university’s School of Management and student housing.
University officials plan to evaluate space needs before deciding what will be housed in the bank building.
This is the university’s first major expansion since the addition of on-campus housing in 2008.
Closing on the purchase is expected to be complete by March 31.
