PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The first woman college president in Rhode Island has been honored with a building named in her honor.
The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1LVIrvR ) that Rhode Island College named the home of its School of Social Work Guardo Hall, after Carol Jean Guardo. She served as president at the college from 1986 to 1989.
RIC’s sitting president, Nancy Carriuolo, said Guardo expanded the college’s academic programs and physical footprint on campus with projects such as construction of a recreation center.
After leaving the school, Guardo was president of the Great Lakes College Association in Michigan and of the College of St. Benedict in Minnesota. She was also interim president of St. Joseph College in Connecticut.
She says she’s proud and humbled to have the building carry her name into the future.
