SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Olympic champion Shani Davis matched the fastest 1,000-meter time in the world this season, finishing in 1 minute, 7.63 seconds Sunday in the U.S. Speedskating Long Track World Cup qualifier.
Joey Mantia was second in 1:08.10, and Olympian Mitchell Whitmore followed in 1:08:31.
Olympian Heather Richardson-Bergsma won the women’s 1,000 in 1:13.32. Olympian Brittany Bowe was second in 1:13.50, and Sugar Todd followed in a personal-best 1:15.69.
KC Boutiette, Mantia and Jeffrey Swider-Peltz were the top three finishers in the men’s mass start, and Richardson-Bergsma, Erin Bartlett and Briana Kramer topped the women’s event.
The full World Cup team will be announced Monday.
