PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island has been selected to host a meeting of the nation’s chief justices and top court administrators.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Suttell (suh-TEL’) says Rhode Island will host the annual joint meeting of the Conference of Chief Justices and Conference of State Court Administrators in Newport in August 2018.

The meeting will bring judicial officers and court administrators together to discuss important issues surrounding the administration of justice.

Suttell says the group will examine what courts do well and identify areas for improvement.

He says he’s looking forward to showcasing Newport and Rhode Island.

About 250 people are expected to attend.

Rhode Island’s state court administrator, J. Joseph Baxter, calls it a “prestigious event.” He says the planning has already begun.
