AUBURN, Maine (AP) - Police in Maine say a Harrison man was behind the wheel of a pickup truck that struck and killed a South Paris woman over the weekend.

The Sun Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1KQJhX7 ) 27-year-old Kevin Scribner was arrested Wednesday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury or death.

Police say Scribner told investigators he was texting just before the crash that killed 21-year-old Brittany Stanhope. Authorities say Stanhope was reaching for something in the backseat of her disabled car when she was hit by Scribner’s pickup truck Saturday night.

Investigators say Scribner was urged by his parents to contact police after seeing news reports about the crash the next morning.

Scribner is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
