MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) - The FBI says it has arrested an Ohio police detective accused of drug trafficking and extortion.

Investigators allege 44-year-old Matthew Dailey, of Howard, misused his job with Mount Vernon police to traffic in narcotics, extort people and use a firearm in drug-trafficking activities. The FBI says Dailey was arrested on a criminal complaint containing those charges, but it provided no further details.

Information about whether he has an attorney wasn’t immediately available.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Dailey has worked for the Mount Vernon police for about two decades and was put on paid administrative leave two weeks ago.

The special agent who leads the FBI’s Cincinnati division says the police department cooperated with the investigation.

Mount Vernon is about 40 miles northeast of Columbus.
