HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) - Police on Long Island say an 11-year-old girl was critically injured when the SUV driven by mother slammed head-on into a fire department chief’s vehicle.
It happened just after 11 a.m. Sunday on Wheeler Road in Hauppauge.
Police say Ismeily Perdomo-Hernandez was ejected from the vehicle. She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.
Police say her mother, Iris Hernandez, told authorities she lost control of the vehicle and spun into oncoming traffic. Her other passengers, including her 9-year-old son and her 29-year-old sister, were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the fire department vehicle was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.
