BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - The outgoing chief executive at the Brattleboro Retreat psychiatric hospital has been honored with an annual prize given out by the institution.

Dr. Robert E. Simpson is stepping down at year-end after nearly a decade as the hospital’s president and CEO. The Anna Marsh Award is named for the woman who founded the Retreat in 1834, and this year it went to Simpson.

At a dinner where the award was presented this past weekend, the Retreat raised $55,000 toward a new fund named for Simpson that will be part of the hospital’s endowment.
