CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - A teenager charged in the killings of his grandparents in Conway will face a jury trial in May.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1ijkfFK ) 14-year old Justin Staton has his jury trial scheduled for May 16-26, according to the Faulkner County circuit clerk’s office.
The clerk’s office says Staton has a pretrial hearing set for Dec. 9.
Staton pleaded not guilty to capital-murder charges earlier this year in the July deaths of Robert and Patricia Cogdell, both 66. The couple had raised Staton as their grandson.
Prosecutors allege Staton and his friend, 18-year-old Hunter Drexler, robbed and shot the couple, then dumped their bodies in a wooded area nearby.
