PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Air monitoring in neighborhoods around the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery was to continue through the weekend following last week’s failure of a floating lid on a nearly full tank.

The Sun-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1FOEeXW ) that C Tech, a Chevron contractor, was checking on fumes, and members of a U.S. Coast Guard hazardous materials team were tasked with checking their readings.

The tank was emptied Wednesday, but the area around the tank was partially flooded with a mix of water and the gasoline product.

Heavy rains were blamed for problems with the tank lid last Sunday.

While emptying the tank, the refinery discovered an 8-foot gash in the bottom. It said the 4,200 gallons that spilled were contained in the area.
