FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - A Florence woman has been charged in connection with the death of her 3-month-old infant.

Multiple media outlets report 23-year-old Jessica Mamaux is charged with homicide by child abuse in the infant’s death.

Authorities say Mamaux is alleged to have caused the infant’s death by placing a foreign object into the child’s mouth, resulting in suffocation. Florence County Sheriff’s Maj. Mike Nunn says the incident happened on Aug. 29.

An autopsy report showed that the death was ruled a homicide.

Mamaux is being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing. It isn’t immediately clear if she has an attorney.
