OAKLYN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a Georgia man fled the scene after hitting a New Jersey police officer who was directing traffic at a construction site.
The officer was struck at the White Horse Pike and West Clinton Avenue intersection in Oaklyn on Thursday.
The officer broadcast a description of the vehicle and police stopped 49-year-old Leon Williams of Dacula, Georgia, in Collingswood.
Williams is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, assault by auto and leaving an injured victim. It’s not known if he has a lawyer who can comment on the charges.
The officer was treated and released from a hospital.
