PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A police officer is recovering after he was run over by a police vehicle while struggling to arrest a suspect in West Philadelphia.
Lt. John Walker says it happened after officers saw a suspect smash an SUV’s window with a baseball bat and flee around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
He says officers caught up a few blocks away. A struggle caused the officer and the man to fall down in the street.
That’s when a police vehicle ran over the officer’s leg.
Walker says the officer is hospitalized in stable condition with a broken foot and several toes.
