BOWLING GREEN, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police say a trooper responding to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 found that the driver had been shot several times.

The motorist was flown to a Richmond hospital, where he died Friday morning. His body has been transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Police say a pickup truck was traveling south on I-95 in Caroline County around 2:40 a.m. when it ran off the highway and overturned. Investigators on Friday were retracing the driver’s movements leading up to the shooting and eventual crash.

The man’s name was not immediately released.
