STORM LAKE, Iowa (AP) - Voters in Storm Lake, rural Buena Vista County and three other towns in the county will decide Tuesday whether to continue a 1 percent local sales tax set to expire in 2020.
The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1WngK3N ) that the tax has provided property tax relief and funding for capital projects and other municipal operations for more than 20 years. It is set to expire on June 30, 2020, in Storm Lake, Alta, Lakeside, Rembrandt and unincorporated areas of the county.
Voters in Storm Lake, Alta, Lakeside and Rembrandt will be asked to renew the tax without an expiration date. Voters in the unincorporated areas of the county are being asked Tuesday to extend the tax to 2035.
