REDDING, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut NAACP officials say they will be meeting with police as they conduct their own investigation into the death of a 35-year-old black attorney found shot in the head in a wrecked car near his home in Redding last year.
Members of the civil rights group and relatives of Gugsa Abraham “Abe” Dabela are questioning determinations by Redding police and the medical examiner’s office that his death was a suicide. The local state’s attorney’s office is still investigating.
The NAACP says many questions remain, including why Dabela’s DNA wasn’t found on the trigger of a handgun found at the crash site.
NAACP Norwalk chapter President Darnell Crosland says group members are scheduled to meet Monday with Police Chief Douglas Fuchs (FEWKS’) to discuss how police arrived at the suicide determination.
