ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Two steel beams salvaged from New York’s World Trade Center after the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be installed at the Winnebago County Emergency Responders Memorial.

A dedication ceremony will be held Friday at the memorial site on the Criminal Justice Center property in Rockford.

The Rockford Register-Star reports (https://bit.ly/1K0KydG) the memorial will serve as a remembrance of the attacks and honor the emergency responders who sacrificed their lives on the job. It also honors local firefighters, law enforcement and medical workers who have died while serving their communities.

The 1,000-pound beams were provided by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and delivered to Winnebago County in March 2011.

The dedication comes on the 14th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
