RHINEBECK, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 32-year-old Hudson Valley man is jailed on vehicular manslaughter and other charges after he was involved in a two-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Kingston man.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office says Jeremy Staats of Red Hook was driving a pickup truck on Route 9 in Rhinebeck around 3:30 a.m. Sunday when he crossed the center line and hit an oncoming minivan driven by 46-year-old Dwayne Crantz.
Deputies say Crantz was killed and Staats fled the scene. Police later found him and took him into custody.
Official say Staats was also charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He’s being held in the county jail on $25,000 bail. It couldn’t be determined if Staats has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
