Donald Trump’s presidential campaign slogan — “Make America Great Again” — seems to be getting under President Obama’s skin.

“America’s great right now,” Mr. Obama told business leaders in Washington Wednesday. “Despite the perennial doom and gloom that I guess is inevitably part of a presidential campaign, America’s winning right now.”

The president never mentioned the GOP front-runner by name in his discussion of economic issues at the Business Roundtable. But Mr. Trump, who has said the “American dream” has died on Mr. Obama’s watch, was obviously on the president’s mind.

“There’s nothing particularly patriotic or American about talking down America, especially when we stand as one of the few sources of economic strength in the world,” the president said.

Mr. Obama said of the GOP presidential candidates, “Everything is dark and everything is terrible. They don’t seem to offer many solutions.”
