RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 21-year-old California woman has pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter in a November crash that claimed the life of a South Lake Tahoe woman who was a passenger in her car.
South Lake Tahoe police arrested Olga Nayeli Pena-Arce in April after a lengthy investigation into the crash that killed 21-year-old Aimee Campos. Another passenger, 25-year-old Wayne Walker of Sacramento, was ejected and hospitalized but survived.
The Reno-Gazette Journal reports (https://tinyurl.com/nj7o63v ) Pena-Arce entered the plea Monday in El Dorado County Superior Court. She potentially faces more than 12 years in prison at her sentencing Nov. 13.
Prosecutors say her blood-alcohol level exceeded the legal limit when she allegedly was driving in excess of 77 mph in a 35 mph zone before she lost control of her vehicle about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 24.
