NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - State officials say the cities of Bolivar, McKenzie and Sevierville have been designated as Main Street communities.
Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Community Development says the cities are all working to revitalize their downtown commercial districts.
The state says it provides training and services to Main Street communities, which officials say generated more than $95 million of public-private investment and created 1,565 new jobs last year.
Bolivar, McKenzie and Sevierville join 28 other cities with the designation. Cities that apply are asked to illustrate qualities such as a strong historic preservation ethic, a collection of historic buildings and a walkable, historic commercial district.
Tennessee Main Street operates under the National Main Street Center, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
