LEESBURG, Fla. (AP) - A civil liberties group says it’s continuing to fight for the right of a gay-straight alliance club to be formed at a middle school in central Florida.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida on Thursday said it plans to appeal a federal judge’s decision that efforts by school officials to deny recognition of the club didn’t violate students’ rights.
A group of students at Carver Middle School in Leesburg sued the Lake County School Board in 2013.
It was the second lawsuit seeking to form the gay-straight alliance club at the school.
The goal of the club is to provide a supportive environment for gay and lesbian students.
